What is Erythromycin ?

Erythromycin belongs in a group of drugs called macrolide antibiotics. 
Macrolide antibiotics slow the growth of, or sometimes kill, sensitive bacteria by reducing the production of important proteins needed by the bacteria to survive.
Erythromycin is used to treat or prevent many different types of infections caused by bacteria.

Uses:
Erythromycin is used to treat certain infections caused by bacteria, such as infections of the respiratory tract, including bronchitis, pneumonia, Legionnaires' disease (a type of lung infection), and pertussis (whooping cough; a serious infection that can cause severe coughing);

Erythromycin side effects:
  •     Common erythromycin side effects may include:
  •      mild diarrhea; or
  •      nausea, vomiting, stomach pain, loss of appetite.
